The Unicorn Company was born out of the recognition that Africa offers the highest return on direct foreign investment in the world, far exceeding all other regions. Enormous natural resources, robust growth in the equities market, relatively high GDP growth performance, growing political stability and attractive valuations of banks on the back of limited liquidity, are some of the main reasons to invest in Africa. Africa offers a consumer base of more than 1 billion people. And the demographics bode well for Africa as more than half its population is under 24. While Europe’s population will lose 60m people by 2050, Africa’s population will increase. The risks of investing in Africa remain high, just as they are for most emerging markets, but the perceived risk is much greater than the real risk. Many African countries are now creating conducive environment for foreign investment.
